The ZEISS Cirrus HD-OCT 4000 enables examination of both the posterior and anterior segments of the eye at an extremely fine spatial scale, without surgical biopsy or even contact with the eye. Building on the retinal imaging technology first introduced with the ZEISS Stratus OCT™, the Cirrus HD-OCT uses advanced spectral-domain optical coherence tomography.

It acquires OCT data approximately 70 times faster (27,000 vs. 400 A-scans per second) and with higher resolution (5 μm vs. ~10 μm axial resolution) compared with first-generation OCT technology.

The Cirrus captures complete cubes of OCT image data, consisting of hundreds of line scans, in about the same time the Stratus acquires a six-line scan. These data cubes can be viewed in three planes and in 3D, providing extensive retinal imaging data.
